Sorry I know this doesn't really fit in a pokemon thread. I really think this is just one of the best games I've ever played. All this contributing to that perfect blending of old and new that likely exists because the game came out right as one era was ending and the other just beginning. With that ticking clock counting down to the end of all things and the core concept of the game being transformation. Each mask except the main three are 'side quest' rewards gained from paying attention to the world (improving yourself) and though each is optional they improve some aspect of your character, like the bunny mask that lets you run faster, or the bomb mask that basically gives you infinite bombs.
It's that perfect mix of old style game design (improve yourself not the character) in that you need to figure out how and where events take place, and modern game design (improve the character not yourself) in that you keep the masks through each three day cycle. I always thought people hyped it up from nostalgia, but I have zero nostalgia attached to this game. Random: I'm playing Majora's Mask for the first time this week, and holy crap this game is easily one of the greatest games of all time, on any console.
